View Map Visitation Information: No visitation is schuled View Map Charles “Chuck” Melvin Reed, 83, of Coconut Creek, FL, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Northwest Medical Center. Born in Providence, RI, he was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Eva (Fitzgerald) Reed, and his sister, Barbara Mann. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children, Dawn (James) Poirier of Norfolk, MA, Alan Crandall of Fort Worth, TX and Michael (Cynthia) Crandall of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Justin, Chelas and Jarrod Poirier, and Michael and Matthew Crandall. He will be sadly missed by all of his family. Chuck proudly served his country in the Pacific campaign in the Navy during WWII and later as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Coast Guard. His commitment and support to the military continued throughout his life, actively serving in the Navy League, Boca Delray Council since 1994, in multiple roles, most recently as Retention Chairman. Charitable activities included annual participation in the Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign. Chuck and Jean also supported the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Saint Joseph’s Indian School in South Dakota.
