Dorothy Roux Diana
Dorothy (Dottie) peacefully passed from this life to her eternal rest on Thursday, July 29, 2010. Dottie had just celebrated her 86th birthday on July 27th. She is survived by her step-daughters, Shirley Roux Larson of Dallas, TX and Carolyn Duffy of West Palm Beach, FL; 7 grandchildren, Eric and Garrett Roux of Sebastian, FL, Lynn Shelhamer and Maureen Duffy of Loxahatchee, FL, John Duffy of Lake Worth, FL, Paul D. Larson Jr. of Dallas, TX and Pamela Burns of Windsor, CT; and 5 great-grandchildren, Jenna Larson of Dallas, TX, Jimmy Shelhamer of Ocala, FL, Heather Shelhamer of Gainesville, FL, Sara Duffy of Auburn, AL and Jared Duffy of Lake Worth, FL. Dottie is predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Edward Luchow, her brothers Louis and Roland Luchow, her son David Roux, and her husbands, Jack Diring, Bill Roux and Ralph Diana. She was born in Pleasant Ridge, MI and grew up in and around Royal Oak, MI. She and Jack Diring were married and settled in Michigan where they adopted their infant son, David. Jack passed away unexpectedly leaving his young wife and their infant son. She and David came to Florida in the late 1950’s where she met and married Bill Roux. They settled in Tequesta, FL. They moved to Freeport, Grand Bahamas in the mid 1960’s and remained there until the late 1970’s. Upon returning to the states Dottie lived in Vero Beach, FL where she ran a successful deli & catering business near the beach. Bill later joined her and they settled in Sebastian, FL where Bill was a contractor. Dottie then started her career as a bookkeeper at Securities Research, Inc. in Vero Beach, FL, where she remained employed until her retirement in 2004. Bill Roux passed away in late 1983. She then suffered the heartbreaking loss of her son David in early 1989. Dorothy met Ralph Diana, then of Melbourne, FL, through mutual friends at her beloved Polish American Club of Vero Beach. They married in August 1990 and remained happily married until Ralph’s death in April 2005. Dottie was quite the woman and led a most fascinating and, at times, very difficult life. She loved to dance, laugh (what a laugh!) and work bingo at the Polish Club more than anything else in the world. Through all of her triumphs and woes she always believed in the richness of life, the goodness of friends and the blessing of family. She lived everyday to its fullest and saw the best in everyone. She was one of a kind and she will be missed terribly by all who knew her and loved her.

A Memorial Service is planned for Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 10 am, at Seawinds Funeral Home chapel, followed by a reception at the Elks Club, Sebastian, FL.  Interment will be privately held at Sebastian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dottie’s memory to the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD, 20785. Arrangements made by Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, Sebastian, Florida. Condolences may be sent to www.Seawindsfh.com/obit.php.
